Common sense promoters

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Common sense is adjusted by what the media, our peers, and family tell us.

Don’t touch something that is very hot – you’ll get burned.
Eat fresh fruits and vegetables.
Look both ways before crossing the street.
Your life is not complete unless you invest in the stock market for your financial future.

The unsophisticated investor repeats to others what he hears or reads in the financial press… that individual is too far removed from the inside of the game to ever become aware of his lack of sophistication. Even expert opinion remains opinion.

You have to be careful… why should we pass on the media’s expectations to our children?

Further along the road less traveled

The unending journey towards spiritual growth… Not with this book. There isn’t much that is interesting, except these two points:

Pg 224
What we look for is our lover to be a god unto us. We look to our spouse or lover to meet all our needs, to fulfill us, to bring us a lasting heaven on earth. And it never works.

Pg 68
The central message for all great religions: learn how to die.

Notes: Place it back on the shelf

How to survive anywhere

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

A guide for urban, suburban, rural, and wilderness environments… actually a decent book. My favorite part is the short recommended books list… very interesting. It appears that the author is aware that wellness and effective survival is a continual life process, not a one-time drill or practice but also an understanding of training the mind and productively embracing life, no matter how it surprises us.

Electric meme

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

A new theory of how we think? It’s not able to live up to that claim.

“Do we have thoughts, or do they have us?”
“Thoughts can think themselves.”

Taoism and Buddhism already go over that stuff… other spiritual folks admit the mind ceaselessly throws out thoughts in order to obtain our attention. The advice our mind provides from these thoughts is mostly noise. Philosophical books or formal schools of thought have already discussed the nature of the mind, attachments, thoughts and our experience of identity.

“Signals sent out into the macroenvironment can also be picked up by the host organism again.”

Yes…

The book goes into a discussion of computer viruses, but doesn’t drive the point forward about any new findings of supreme importance regarding the nature of thought.

Notes: Avoid.

Multiple streams of idiots

Self-proclaimed self-help business gurus and experts say, “See yourself achieving success…” but successful fantasies don’t change the conditions of minimum wages, low pay and unemployment.

Extreme confidence is a prerequisite to extraordinary achievement, the thing is, it is a belief rooted in your abilities despite any unfavorable circumstances or failures, and it cannot be bought. If extreme confidence could be purchased we’d have a lot of people walking around in a high-performance zone state of mind or mindlessness as the case may be.

Self-help sellers have a name for you

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Self-help sellers have a name for you, it’s called future revenue stream.

If affirmations are so powerful, how come these self-help gurus/marketers don’t attract wealth beyond their book deals, seminars and speaking engagements? Oh right, we have to affirm their worth/wealth creation. If it weren’t for the self-help sales, where would the money come from?

When crisis looms it becomes evident that affirmations don’t have linkages to productivity. But maybe you’ve got an interesting story to tell from your own experience… feel free to post.

The trick to money is having some

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

The positively affirmed wealth-focused mindset cannot mail you a check from the clouds. At some point you will have to get to the marketplace, satisfy the needs of people in some way and have them transfer a symbolic vote of cash to you. That’s the recognized way:

Skill
Knowledge
Or product

Affirmation time:
I am always in the right place at the right time, abundance is simple and natural to me, and all of my needs are constantly met.

Jump into chance

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

To reach wisdom may require action, it’s often easier to say no because no requires nothing else, subscribing to chance has no substitute. What have you taken a chance on today?
